Q: so.... what type of photos do you take?
A: All of them! My style definitely leans more towards capturing the moments instead of the 'poses,' but I am careful to allow time for both. In the pre-planning stage, I love getting to know each couple and what they want and expect out of their final set of images. What I strive for, and what I believe most couples want, is for their photos to tell the entire story of that day. Being present for every moment and having the experience to know when to be ready for them allows me to do this. Together we will create lists of the specific formal photos each couple requests and figure out the best timeline for those to happen while being the least intrusive of your day. I don't ever want a couple spending hours away from their guests and their party for their photos. Once we have a plan for those formal photos, I can plan out the rest of the day around you and making sure I am ready to capture the real stuff - the huge smiles, the tears, the laughs and the hugs.
Q: what if... I am the least photogenic client you ever had?
A: Well... no... that prize always goes to me. And as someone who understands not feeling naturally comfortable on the other end of the camera, I've got you. Let's be honest... not many of us are used to having professional photos taken of us. A combination of creating movement, laughing at the awkward moments, and finding beautiful light, among other things help couples relax and have fun instead of find stress in having their photos taken.
Q: should we do an engagement session?
A: Yea! A couple years ago I was on the fence about engagement sessions. I thought they were fine. The photos were beautiful, but even for my own wedding I opted out of them. But, I am now all for engagement sessions! I have seen how having an engagement session allows couples to become comfortable in front of the camera and also, gives them a beautiful set of photos in more of an every day setting. Most couples don't have as many photos of themselves as they would like, and this is an opportunity to have a beautiful set of photos away from all of the excitement of the wedding day.
Q: Do you shoot smaller weddings or elopements?
A: Hell yes! I love a great elopement or small ceremony. Please ask me about specialty elopement pricing.
Q: Do you travel?
A: Absolutely. While most of my weddings take place between Cape Cod and Boston, I am all for a destination wedding - Travel fees vary based on location. I do not charge a 'travel fee' for distance to most of NH, ME, CT, or VT (I love a good road trip!) but I do require a room or stipend towards hotel fees for the night.
Q: i'm nervous, reassure me! all the what ifs:
What if you are sick?
I have never missed a wedding (knock on all the wood!) and even though it's rare I get sick, I have shot several weddings while under the weather - once with a fever in the morning of 104. (give me all the Advil!) but the couple never knew, and no image suffered! That being said, in the event of my untimely death or something slightly less morbid... I have a great network of amazing photographers on call to quickly fill in.
What if your camera gets smashed?
I always have back up gear and backup gear for my backup gear.
What if you get smashed?
I don't drink at weddings, unless I'm a guest :) ... no one likes sideways blurred images.
Are you insured?
I am! Please let me know if your venue requires my insurance certificate.
Q:can we view some full albums and chat more before we book?
A: Yes please! I meet up with couples all the time prior to booking. It's a great idea to meet with a few photographers before deciding to see if it's a good match. If you would like to meet up to discuss your wedding, ask some questions, see some images, and have some coffee maybe? I'm always up for it! I have a studio located 30 minutes South of Boston, or am happy to meet at a convenient location in between. If you are further away we can chat on the phone or Skype too!
Q: Do you require a deposit?
A: Yes, I do require a 10% non-refundable deposit to secure your wedding date. I receive several inquiries during the year for specific dates, so unfortunately I am not able to ‘hold’ a date without a deposit.
Q: How many weddings do you book in a day/weekend?
A: I never book more than one wedding per day, and unless there is a very small ceremony the day prior or the day after, I only book one wedding per weekend. Weddings are a lot of work and I want you to have my full attention on that day!
Q:do you work with a second photographer?
A: I bring an assistant/second photographer to all weddings that require one and she stays throughout the majority of the day, and leaves typically once the ceremony, formals, and any other big events are complete. During the reception I will be all over the place getting all the angles you need!
